1. Introduction

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Lexicon Institute of Technology is established as a dedicated body to plan, implement, monitor, and continuously improve quality assurance processes across academic, administrative, and support services. The IQAC serves as the hub for embedding a quality culture within the institution, aligning with national accreditation standards, global best practices, and the vision and mission of the Institute.

2. Objectives

  • To develop a system for conscious, consistent, and catalytic improvement in academic and administrative performance.
  • To promote a learner-centric environment that fosters academic excellence and personal development.
  • To ensure compliance with the quality benchmarks set by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Sri Lanka Qualification Framework (SLQF), and other regulatory bodies.
  • To initiate quality-related research, documentation, and dissemination of best practices.
  • To enhance institutional credibility and accountability among stakeholders.

3. Functions of the IQAC



      1. Academic Quality Assurance

  • Curriculum design and revision in line with SLQF and industry needs.
  • Monitoring teaching, learning, and assessment strategies.
  • Ensuring effective integration of ICT and innovative pedagogy.

      2. Administrative and Governance Quality

  • Promoting transparency and accountability in management.
  • Streamlining policies for staff recruitment, training, and appraisal.
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory frameworks.

      3. Research and Innovation

  • Encouraging faculty and student research.
  • Establishing collaborations with industry and international partners.
  • Creating mechanisms for innovation and knowledge transfer.

      4. Student Support and Progression

  • Enhancing student advising, mentoring, and welfare services.
  • Strengthening career guidance, internships, and employability initiatives.
  • Gathering regular student feedback for continuous improvement.

      5. Community Engagement

  • Promoting social responsibility, ethics, and sustainability.
  • Organizing outreach programs, professional training, and community partnerships.

5. Quality Assurance Cycle

The IQAC will adopt a Plan–Do–Check–Act (PDCA) model:

  1. Plan: Define standards, set objectives, and design processes.
  2. Do: Implement policies, conduct teaching/learning activities, and staff development.
  3. Check: Monitor performance through evaluations, feedback, and audits.
  4. Act: Initiate corrective measures, introduce innovations, and revise policies.

6. Documentation and Reporting

  • Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) submitted to the Governing Board.
  • Self-Evaluation Reports (SER) for accreditation and external review.
  • Records of faculty appraisal, student feedback, and stakeholder surveys.

7. Quality Indicators

The IQAC will monitor and evaluate performance in the following areas:

  • Teaching–Learning and Evaluation (curriculum delivery, assessment practices)
  • Research, Publications, and Innovation
  • Infrastructure and Learning Resources
  • Student Support, Development, and Progression
  • Governance, Leadership, and Institutional Values

8. Capacity Building and Training

  • Regular workshops for faculty on pedagogy, assessment, and research ethics.
  • Training for administrative staff in quality management systems.
  • Orientation and induction programs for students and staff.

9. Review and Evaluation

  • IQAC will conduct bi-annual reviews of institutional processes.
  • External peer reviews will be organized every three years.
  • Continuous improvement will be ensured through benchmarking against national and international standards.
